Pageant Rules - Eligibility

  • Female, 16-24 years of age as at the date of the beauty pageant
  • Height of at least 5ft (152cm) in bare feet
  • Single, has never been married or has never had a child as a single parent.
  • Of Filipino descent
  • Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Resident of New Zealand
  • Endorsed/sponsored by a club/society/organization who is a full financial member of the Federation of Filipino Associations, Societies and Clubs in New Zealand Incorporated (FFASCNZI)

Requirements

  • Fully completed Entry Form
  • Endorsement Form by the sponsoring organization
  • Copy of Birth Certificate
  • Proof of residency or citizenship - NZ citizenship certificate or passport, Permanent Residents Visa or Residents Visa.
  • Photograph of candidate, 10 x 15cm, full head and shoulder
  • The candidate is required to present a performance for the Talent Presentation portion of the competition and must submit a Talent Description Form
  • The candidate is required to present herself wearing the following:
    • National Costume
    • Evening Gown
    • Swimsuit
  • The following forms must be submitted to the Host Pageant Committee:
    • National Costume Description Form
    • Evening Gown Description Form

Entry Fee

The entry fee will be $100.00 per candidate. The entry fee is required upon submission of their entry form.

Deadline

To allow for preparation of the host, the deadline for submission of Pageant entries will be 15 of September 2024.

The completed form should include the candidate’s body measurement and shirt size. This is required to ensure that the swimsuit provided by the organizing committee will be in good fit.

ALL FORMS are required to be completed and submitted by the 15 of September 2024, regardless of when the entry form was submitted. This includes the Talent Description form, National Costume and Evening Gown form, and Additional Requirements form.

Pageant Categories and Criteria

Qualifying Round

The candidates will be judged in the following five (5) major categories.

  1. Talent Presentation
    • To be consistent with the Event’s aim of showcasing the Filipino heritage, all contestants are required that their talent presentation will constitute a Filipino cultural aspect. It may include, but not limited to, vocals in every medium, dance in all forms, gymnastics, drama, or any stage act. A musical instrument may be used.
    • The candidate must perform on the stage alone and without any back-up or assistance. The presentation is not to exceed 3 minutes. Any extension will attract a 1-point deduction per minute.
    • Talent Presentation Criteria:
      • Style and Originality (Choreography, creativity, artistry) 
      • Technique (Ability, execution, timing, co-ordination) 
      • Presentation (Visual aspects)
  2. National Costume
    • The candidate will wear a national costume with roots in any of the Filipino islands. The costume shall be judged as to its ability to demonstrate a combination of Filipino tradition and contemporary haute couture based on the fabric, colour, creativity and design.
    • National Costume Criteria:
      • Creation and Design (Material, Symbolism, Detailing)
      • Stage Presence and Personality
      • Poise, Bearing Stage Presentation
  3. Swimwear
    • Candidates will be judged based on stage presence, poise, and appearance. Each candidate will be provided with a one-piece swimsuit, courtesy of the organiser or its sponsor. However, the candidate is advised to prepare their own swimsuit as a back-up.

  4. Evening Gown
    • Judging will be based on the overall appearance, poise, grace, stage presence and appropriateness of the evening gown.

Semi-Final Round

This is the Question & Answer portion of the contest. The scores and judging in this round will be based on how well the candidate answers the question.

There will be five (5) candidates chosen to enter the semi-final round, these candidates will be the 5 candidates with the highest scores from the qualifying round.

Each of the five (5) semi-final candidates will randomly pick a judge who prepared the question. The questions from the judges were submitted beforehand to the host organizing committee.

The questions may come from the candidates’ fact sheet, and may include the candidate’s culture, heritage, or socially relevant current events. The judge’s question will be read by the host/emcee twice and the candidate will have 30 seconds to answer the question after the question has been repeated.

All questions will be in English, and no interpreters will be allowed. Points will be awarded based on the candidates’ response in context, intelligence, wittiness, poise, and personality. The candidates who garner the top three (3) scores qualify for the Final Round

Final Round

For the final round, each of the three finalists will be asked the same question as determined by the judges. 

While one finalist is being interviewed on the stage, the other two will be requested to leave the stage and be provided with noise cancelling headphones, so as not to hear the question being asked.

After the scores have been tallied as before, winners will be declared in accordance with the scores they obtained, beginning with the Second Runner-up then ascending through titles:

Votes from the audience and other supporters may be sought either through ballot at the venue or by text-a-vote from the wider community or by using social media. The award will be given to the candidate with the greatest number of votes.

Competition Criteria

Judging & Scoring

  1. There will be up to five (5) judges appointed by the organizing committee.
  2. The judges’ decision will be final, and no appeals will be considered.
  3. Each candidate will be awarded a score ranging from 1.0 to 10.0 per category per judge with 1.0 being the lowest score.
  4. Per judge, the candidate’s score in each category in the Qualifying Round will be added together and averaged. This averaged number will count as the candidate’s score from each respective judge.
  5. Each of the judge’s averaged scores for a candidate in the Qualifying Round will be added together and this final number will be the candidate’s Total Score in the Qualifying Round.
  6. Candidates who garner the top 5 Total Scores in the Qualifying Round will move onto the Semi- Final Round.
  7. At the start of the Semi-Final Round, the scores will be reset to zero and judging/scoring will then be based on the criteria for Semi-Final Round.
  8. The three (3) candidates who scored high in the Q&A portion of the Semi-Final Round will be declared as Finalists and move on to the Final Round.

NOTE:

In the case where there are only five (5) candidates total in the pageant, judging criteria for First Round and Semi-Final Round will still have to be done. The scores in the First Round and Semi- Final Round will be combined and the three (3) candidates who garnered the highest scores will qualify to be in the Final Round of the contest.

  1. At the start of the Final Round, the scores of the three (3) finalists will be reset to zero and judging will be based on one (1) question.
  2. The Special Awards or the Non-Bearing Awards are decided by the judges amongst all the candidates based on the criteria in the First Round.

MISS PHILIPPINES-NEW ZEALAND CROWN

The Federation Crown remains the property of the Federation. The winner gets to wear the Federation Crown at coronation which will be passed on by the previous year’s winner on the coronation night.

After the coronation night, the host organization shall give the winner their own Crown to keep as their own property, as part of their prize. The Federation Crown shall be handed back to the Head-Arts & Culture Portfolio who will be responsible to have the Crown available for the next year’s host of the beauty pageant.
