Auckland experienced the lively and festive spirit of the Philippines over the Labour Weekend as thousands gathered for the Pistang Pilipino sa Auckland 2024. From October 25th to 27th, Bruce Pulman Park transformed into a bustling hub of Filipino heritage, where the warmth of Filipino hospitality, food, sports, and entertainment united Filipinos, KiwiNoys, Kiwis, and other visitors for three days of unforgettable celebration.
The annual pageant crowned Carmina Blewett from Canterbury Filipino Sports Association as Miss Philippines-New Zealand 2024. Carmina won over the audience and judges with her beauty, grace, and poise. The competition was fierce, with Gabriella Georgia Croft securing the title of 1st Runner-Up and Fiona Leyana Reyes Sandiko taking 2nd Runner-Up. Other recognitions included Barbie-Angel Fernandez Braas as the People’s Choice Award winner, Aljeah Reign Gutang as Miss Congeniality, Fiona Leyana Reyes Sandiko won Best Swimsuit, Carmina Blewett won Best in Evening Wear and Jannah Simone Raluta Antenor crowned Miss Photogenic and Best in National Costume.
This year's KiwiNoy Huwaw Factor Talent Search shone a spotlight on the creativity and passion of Filipino-Kiwis. Tarra captivated the crowd as the Solo Champion with a performance that embodied passion and excellence. PCA Group took the Group Champion title with an electrifying show of unity and Filipino pride. Congratulations to all participants for bringing their incredible talents to the stage!
The festival also highlighted the Filipino love for sports, featuring competitions in basketball, badminton, volleyball, lawn tennis, golf, darts, table tennis, and ten-pin bowling. Each match brought a sense of excitement, with players showcasing remarkable athleticism and skill. These sporting events not only entertained but strengthened the bonds of camaraderie within the Filipino community and with Kiwi friends alike.
Festival-goers indulged in Filipino culinary delights, sampling favorites such as adobo, lechon, filipino barbecue, halo-halo, and bibingka. Each food stall offered a taste of the Philippines, providing a rich cultural experience that was truly a feast for the senses.
The event would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors, including Bagsic Law, Eagle Recruitment NZ, Western Union, Foundation North, The Garage, Planet Travel, Stream Gold, and many others. Their generosity and dedication helped make Pistang Pilipino sa Auckland 2024 a success.
As we bid farewell to this year’s festival, we carry forward the pride and joy of Filipino culture.
